Let's Encrypt have announced that on June 4, 2025 they will no longer be providing free expiration email notifications for certificates that are about to expire.
Lots of people rely on expiration emails, from side projects to sysadmins looking after entire estates. It's particularly useful for certificates that might need some extra steps to renew, such as a DNS challenge and response.
Cert monitor is a new service that aims to bridge this gap by offering free, online monitoring for all of your SSL certificates. You can monitor the status of your certificates from your online dashboard, and receive notifications of any problems to your phone or inbox.
When you sign up for a free account there are two ways that you can being monitoring your SSL certificates.
With the easy-to-use dashboard you can easily begin monitoring certificates simply by adding a URL. Cert Monitor will then begin periodically checking the certificate status and alert you to any problems or upcoming expiry dates.
Your free account will give you an API key when you sign up. You can then include this with a one-liner command on your server to retrieve all Let's Encrypt certificates in use and automatically add them to your dashboard.
This method is also useful for integration with DevOps configuration management tools like Puppet, Ansible, Salt and Chef.
You can also use your API key to make calls to our REST API. The API will allow you to add new URLs to monitor and receive status information on all URLs already being monitored.
